Directors

We are a warm and inviting place for both experienced and emerging directors.  We look to fill three primary roles.

Director

The Director directs and oversees all phases of production from auditions through performance.

  • Develop and direct creative vision for all aspects of the production. 

  • Collaborate with Managing Artistic Director and/or Producer, Scenic Designer, Lighting Designer, Costume Designer and Sound Designer to ensure execution of creative vision, allowing space for each to contribute in a meaningful artistic way.  

  • Collaborate with Music Director and Choreographer on storytelling aspects of music and dance.  

  • Display deep understanding of the script, characters and story from pre-production to performance. 

  • Maintain excellent communication with members of Stage Management. 

  • Approve all rehearsal reports and daily calls before distribution from Stage Management. 

  • Ensure staging and other interpretation reflect appropriate intention of the playwright. Respect and preserve the script and seek approval of any changes and cuts from the Managing Artistic Director. 

  • In collaboration with the Managing Artistic Director and/or Producer, create a master rehearsal schedule. 

  • Lead by example, always respecting the space and the master production/rehearsal schedules as agreed upon during pre-production. Communicate any necessary changes in a timely manner. 

  • Collaborate and cooperate with Marketing and Stage Management on the scheduling of promo photos/video. Approve all photos/video to ensure they reflect the artistic integrity of the production. 

  • Collaborate with Costume Designer and Stage Management on the scheduling of costume fittings. 

Qualifications

  • Upbeat and positive attitude. We are a very collaborative theatre and are looking for somebody enthusiastic about learning from those around them.

  • Previous experience working as a director at professional, semi-professional, college, or community theatre levels.

Director

Music Director

The Music Director works with the director through all phases of production from auditions to performance, teaching and directing all musical aspects.   

  • Support the director’s creative vision for all aspects of the production. 

  • Participate in creative discussions between Director and Designers – ensure the vision and concept is supported by the music. 

  • Collaborate with Director on storytelling aspects of music.  

  • Display deep understanding of the script, characters and story from pre-production to performance. 

  • Maintain excellent communication with members of Stage Management. 

  • Ensure all required communication regarding rehearsal and performance needs are given to the Stage Manager and approved by director for daily rehearsal reports. 

  • Ensure all musical moments and other interpretation reflect appropriate intention of the playwright as well as the Director. 

  • In collaboration with the Director, create a master rehearsal schedule.

  • Previous experience working as a music director

 

Music Director

Choreographer

The choreographer works with the director through all phases of production from auditions to performance, creating and teaching original choreography and musical staging for assigned production. 

  • Support the director’s creative vision for all aspects of the production. 

  • Collaborate with and provide input to Director, Scenic Designer, Lighting Designer, Costume Designer and Sound Designer as it pertains to choreographic requirements of the production, allowing space for each to contribute in a meaningful artistic way.  

  • Collaborate with Music Director and Director on storytelling aspects of music and dance.  

  • Display deep understanding of the script, characters and story from pre-production to performance, creating original choreography and staging that supports storytelling. 

  • Maintain excellent communication with members of Stage Management. 

  • Ensure all required communication regarding rehearsal and performance needs are given to the Stage Manager and approved by director for daily rehearsal reports. 

  • Ensure choreography, musical staging and other interpretation reflect appropriate intention of the playwright as well as the Director. 

  • In collaboration with the Director, create a master rehearsal schedule.
