Meet Jeremy Dumont, Education Director

Please join us as we welcome Jeremy Dumont to the team here at Stageworks Theatre. Our Education Director will expand our ability to enrich lives through the performing arts and to develop talent that will be helpful to the theatre and the community in general.

1. Introduce yourself! What is your role at Stageworks?

My name is Jeremy Dumont and I am the Director of Education for Stageworks

2. What did you do prior to joining Stageworks?

I have been a freelance director/choreographer for the past 14 years, traveling across the country working for various regional theaters and arts organizations. I also have an extensive background as an arts educator, having taught for various schools and theaters across the country.

3. What are some of your favorite plays/musicals/shows?

Where do I begin! In terms of the whole package (music, lyrics, story) it doesn’t get better than Stephen Sondheim. I particularly love the musical Follies. I think that Little Shop of Horrors is a perfect musical and no matter how many times I watch it, it gets me every time. If I had to pick an “old warhorse” of a show, I’d pick Carousel. It has some controversial themes that people (rightfully so) tend to get hung up on but at the heart of it, its main theme is that nobody is beyond redemption or forgiveness. Plus, the music is some of the lushest music ever written for the American Musical Theater. I could seriously go on and on about musicals….

4. What's your favorite thing about Stageworks?

The community! My fiancé and I recently moved to Houston from Seattle and the first thing I noticed when I began interviewing at Stageworks is how welcoming, open and professional everyone is. Once I started working at the theater, everyone welcomed me like I was an old friend. It’s something that speaks volumes to the leadership and environment at Stageworks.

5. What's a fun fact about you that some people may not know?

I am a HUGE gamer. I play everything from retro games of my childhood to the latest big releases on console. I have an Xbox One, PS4, PC, PSVR, and a Nintendo Switch. When I am not in the middle of production or working at the theater, you will most likely find me playing video games.

6. Anything else you'd like to add?

I am beyond excited to be working at Stageworks and to help foster in the next generation of young artists in the Houston theater scene and beyond. I hope to see you in class someday!
