Auditions: Holiday Follies - DATE


Originally schedule to open before Covid, we are bringing back this show to run October 1 - 31, 2021.


The following roles are open (descriptions below):

All who are auditioning, complete the online audition form and also schedule your audition time. You will need an acting resume, a headshot, an emergency contact info to complete the form, and should be able to complete the form in one sitting.  This audition form should be completed within 48 hours of securing your audition time.

Auditions, rehearsals and performances are held at Stageworks Theatre, 10760 Grant Road, Houston, Texas 77070.


With book and lyrics by Eric Idle himself and music by John Du Prez – and lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people.

The 2005 Broadway production won three Tony® Awards, including Best Musical, and was followed by two successful West End runs. The outrageous, uproarious, and gloriously entertaining story of King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake will delight audiences as they search for the Holy Grail and “always look on the bright side of life.”

Auditions are open to the community and no roles have been cast yet. Some parts may be cast with actors of ANY ethnicity and gender neutral. We are seeking actors who love Monty comedy and who can sing, act, and move well. We are also seeking dancers, including tap dancers.


*All actors are required to be at least 18 years old at the time of show opening to audition. Additionally, roles may be cast without callbacks.

Song/Side Preparation
  • Please prepare and perform 1-2 minutes of an upbeat, musical comedy selection and be prepared to act it as well. Song selections from the show ARE acceptable. An accompanist and music player will be provided; no acappella auditions, please.

  • All characters have British accents – please be prepared to sing and read in this accent.

  • It is to your advantage to be very familiar with the music from the show and the movie, “MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL.”

  • We would prefer you NOT perform with sheet music in your hand – we’d rather see you tell a story.

  • Dance: There is a dance portion to this audition that will assess your movement level. We are looking for tappers, so please bring your tap shoes if you own some. Also, please wear appropriate clothing for dance/movement, so that we can see your best physicality.

Dance Preparation

All auditioners will participate in a dance call. In addition to basic dancing, there is a dance ensemble in this show of 10-14 people. We’re looking for the strongest storytellers.

Unable To Attend Audition?  

We will accept video auditions up to July 15, 2021.  Record your audition and upload to Vimeo or YouTube and provide the link (provide password as required).  Additionally, complete this online audition form and include your video link in the assigned field (at the end of the form).

Rehearsal Schedule

  • Conflicts will be heavily scrutinized on this show, as it is a heavy ensemble show

Character Descriptions

***All roles require a British accent and we will provide a dialect coach (cockney, Scottish, RP, etc)

KING ARTHUR (Baritone [Low G2-High F4], Late 30s-60s). The King of England, who sets out on a quest to form the Knights of the Round Table and find the Holy Grail. Great humor. Good singer. Mover.

THE LADY OF THE LAKE (Alto with large range [Low E3-High B6], 20s-40s). Diva. Strong, beautiful, possesses mystical powers. The leading lady of the show. Great singing voice is essential, as she must be able to sing effortlessly in many styles and vocal registers. Sings everything from opera to pop to scatting. Gets angry easily. Mover.


SIR ROBIN (Tenor/Baritone [Low D3-High G4], upper 20s-40s). A Knight of the Round Table. Ironically called “Sir Robin the Brave,” though he couldn’t be more cowardly. Joins the Knights for the singing and dancing. Also plays GUARD 1 and BROTHER MAYNARD, a long-winded monk. A good mover.


SIR LANCELOT (Tenor/Baritone [Low C3-High E4], upper 20s-40s). A Knight of the Round Table. He is fearless to a bloody fault but through a twist of fate discovers his “softer side.” Actor must be great with accents as he also plays THE FRENCH


TAUNTER, an arrogant, condescending, over-the-top Frenchman; the KNIGHT OF NI, an absurd, cartoonish leader of a peculiar group of Knights; and TIM THE ENCHANTER, a ghostly being with a Scottish accent.


PATSY (Tenor/Baritone [Low Bb3-High G5], Upper 20s-40s). King Arthur’s horse and servant. Under-appreciated but always longing for Arthur’s approval. Good, funny, physical mover. Also plays MAYOR, a jolly red-faced man who advertises the merits of his hometown; and the drunken, useless GUARD 2. Very good mover. Tap skills a bonus.


SIR GALAHAD (Tenor [Low Bb3-High Bb5], upper 20s-30s). A Knight of the Round Table. Begins as Dennis, a lower class “mud gatherer” who becomes knighted and transforms into the dashing Sir Galahad. Also plays PRINCE HERBERT’S FATHER, a wealthy, brutish Yorkshireman at odds with his sensitive son; and THE BLACK KNIGHT, who is always ready to duel despite multiple injuries. Strong bari-tenor singing required.


SIR BEDEVERE (Tenor/Baritone with falsetto [Low D3-High G4], 20s-40s). A Knight of the Round Table. An inept scholar. Also plays DENNIS GALAHAD’S MOTHER, a shrill peasant woman; and CONCORDE, Sir Lancelot’s horse.


HISTORIAN (Tenor [Low A2-High A5], 20s-30s). A tweedy academic. Also plays NOT DEAD FRED, a sickly little fellow who — despite others’ beliefs — claims he is “not yet dead”; a FRENCH GUARD, the condemnatory sidekick to the French Taunter; a

MINSTREL in Sir Robin’s band; and PRINCE HERBERT, the hopeful and frilly prince who loves to sing and pines for his love atop a tower. Tenor singing required. Very good mover.


MALE ENSEMBLE. Seeking 6 dancers/movers and singers to play many roles including the other Knights of the Round Table, Sir Not Appearing, Sir Bohrs, Bodies in “Not Yet Dead,” the Dancing Monk, the Dancing Nun, French Citizens, Finland Citizens, a French Guard, Robin’s Minstrel, and more! Tap skills are a bonus!
