Show Summary
Based on the 1984 award-winning movie of the same name starring Kevin Bacon, Footloose is a classic tale of teenage rebellion and repression that features high energy choreography and touching vocal performances. When teenager Ren McCormack and his family move from big-city Chicago to a small southwestern town, he's in for a real case of culture shock. Though he tries hard to fit in, the streetwise Ren can't quite believe he's living in a place where rock music and dancing are illegal.
However, there is one small pleasure: Ariel Moore, the rebellious daughter of the highly respected and generally misunderstood Reverend Shaw, who is responsible for these suppressive statutes. Ren and his classmates want to do away with this ordinance, especially since the senior prom is right around the corner, but only Ren has the courage to initiate a discussion to abolish the dance ban and revitalize the spirit of the repressed townspeople. This is a fast-paced drama is filled with such now-famous hit songs as the title track and "Let's Hear It for the Boy" and “Footloose”. This show explores several themes that are good points of discussion to have with children and teens, including:
· Defending strongly held values
· The importance of Family and Community
· The importance of communication between teens and parents
· Respect of self-expression
Overall the show’s messages are positive--that teenagers have a voice and deserve to be heard, communication with your children is essential, parents and community matter as role models and that together they can make a difference
Content Advisory
Parental Guidance is highly recommended. Some of the sexual material and profanity may be too mature for the youngest. Nowadays the actual movie would have been rated PG-13.
Footloose contains:
Mild sexual content from jokes and discussions about sexual activity to occasional foul language that is typical of a teenage group (sh*t and *ss).
Scenes in which teens drink, (stage/faux) smoke, and generally rebel against society.
Scenes with couples dancing in a provocative manner.
Embraces and kissing between teens and between adults
