HOUSTON, TEXAS – Stageworks Theatre, Northwest Harris County’s only professional theatre company, will host twenty-five theatrical day camps this summer for students ages five to nineteen. The camps offer a wide variety of opportunities for students to play, explore and engage in the arts.
“Summer is a great time for kids to explore their creativity, try new things, and keep their brains sharp” says Ryan Scarlata, Managing Artistic Director at Stageworks Theatre. “Our day camp programs provide a structured and safe environment for kids to expand their imagination and gain confidence.”
Located at 10760 Grant Road in Cypress, Stageworks offers two types of day camps: one week training camps which focus on gaining acting skills while using fun themes such as ‘Superheroes’ and ‘Under the Sea,’ and multi-week performance camps which culminate in fully staged productions for a public audience. A new edition this summer is a two-week, half-day College Prep intensive which prepares high school actors for college auditions.
Stageworks Theatre houses two performance venues and four classrooms which will be filled with hundreds of young people all summer long. Performance camp productions include Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Mean Girls JR, The SpongeBob Musical, Frozen JR and more all led by industry professionals. “The directors, music directors, choreographers, and teaching artists who head our camps are highly trained, working artists. We are fortunate to have faculty who have performed in major regional theatres, national tours and Broadway” said Scarlata. “Whether or not students plan to pursue theatre as a career or hobby, theatre arts training can help them in other ways. It promotes critical thinking and problem-solving skills, teaches collaboration, improves literacy skills, and builds confidence in public speaking.
“The Stageworks family of instructors, directors, production crew and staff are phenomenal in not only their talent but in their enthusiasm and love for theatre” said Amy Welch, parent of a 9-year-old who began attending Stageworks in 2021. “The most important thing for us is that when we drop her off at the theatre for camp or rehearsal, we never have to worry because Stageworks has created such a safe and welcoming environment. Every kid, regardless of their interest in theatre, could benefit in attending a summer camp to build important life skills and make new friends!"
Registration for Stageworks Summer Camps is now open with early-bird pricing through April 30. One-week camps range from $200 to $250 while two and three-week camps range from $410 to $755. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. All camps are held at Stageworks Theatre, 10760 Grant Road. Register online at www.StageworksTX.org
