Session A: Ages 8 - 13
June 15 & 22, 2pm - 5pm
Session B: Ages 14 - 114
June 15 & 22, 6pm - 9pm
Sheri is a pioneer in our industry. About 15 years ago, she realized that modern music was affecting musical theatre. And she decided to do something about it.
Today's performer must know how to work modern radio music in his/her repertoire. Sheri's course is built using foundational information from her hugely successful book Rock the Audition: How to Prepare for and Get Cast in Rock Musicals. This class built a cult following in New York City and is now available in a virtual setting with Stageworks Theatre.
This course meets for two live sessions, but the excitement happens right upon registering. Once registered, you'll receive a music genre and a preparation guide for the first class. You'll attend the first class, ready to perform a song you've prepared from your assigned genre. You'll be guided to
research the era you are embodying. Look at popular dances, listen to the music, and research what was happening culturally at that time!
By the end of the second class, you'll end up with a polished video as a useful takeaway product.
Each class is limited to 12 participants. This will be an intimate, personal experience. Come and learn to rock the audition!
This class will explore the music, the period, political influences, social dynamics, and various topics that affected the messaging in the songs. These topics may be explored more explicitly in Session B (PG-13), but will be handled in a PG fashion for Session A.

About Sheri Sanders
Sheri has rocked New York stages and national tours! Insisting on her own pliability and flexibility as an actor, Sheri has done everything from playing Little Becky Two Shoes in the National Tour of Urinetown, To channelling Kitty Genovese in the opera The Screams of Kitty Genovese, to Golde in Fiddler on The Roof, to the company cover of BETTY RULES and CHIX6, and any and every genre in between. Sheri’s done extensive puppet work in both Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas AND Gabe Barres’ Tom Jones, and has gotten to marry her love of high character work and pop music as Calliope in Xanadu, and her debut as Rosie in ACT of Connecticuts’ inaugural production of Mamma Mia. Sheri will take on ANYTHING you give her with a little time to research and soul search.
In 2004, she created an audition class in NYC called Rock The Audition: A Masterclass in Auditioning for Rock Musicals – and it became a cult hit in NYC. Since then, Sheri has become a Hal Leonard published author, and taught more than 67 musical theatre programs all over the country to successfully interpret all styles of popular music. Sheri is the world’s preeminent “rock” repertoire coach and audition cut arranger, and is now the first person in the history of musical theatre to have audition cuts on the most popular sheet music site in the world, Musicnotes.
