Meet the Cast of 9 to 5 The Musical: Erin Clark as Judy

Meet Erin Clark, an incredibly talented actress new to Stageworks Theatre. In 9 to 5 the Musical, based on the 1980 film of the same name, Erin plays the reserved housewife, Judy Bernly who is starting a new job at Consolidated Companies, following a separation from her husband.

Excited and grateful to be a part of 9 to 5 The Musical, she and her family recently relocated to Houston from Southern California. Erin graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.F.A in Musical Theater from Cal State University, Fullerton. She has performed at regional theaters throughout California and spent a year and a half traveling the world as the lead production singer for Holland America Cruise Line. Some favorite venues include the Hollywood Bowl, the Honda Center, and the Queen Mary. Erin also loves to share her passion for music and theater, having directed and choreographed for children's theater productions throughout the Southern California area for a little over 10 years. When not performing or teaching, Erin enjoys being “Mommy” to her beautiful daughters, Hailey and Piper, and sharing life with her supportive husband Mike.

9 to 5 the Musical Meet the Cast: Erin Clark as Judy

Welcome to Stageworks! How long have you been performing and what have been some of your favorite roles? I caught the theater bug early, performing in programs similar to the conservatory here at Stageworks throughout my childhood. I earned my BFA in Musical Theater at Cal State Fullerton, and performed professionally off and on upon graduating (taking a break to take on the role of "Mommy" to my two wonderful daughters). One of my favorite performing jobs was as the lead singer for Holland America Cruise line. It was so fun to be a part of the glamorous, over-the-top revue shows AND travel to exotic locations. Another favorite was as one of Reno Sweeney's Angels in Anything Goes- I LOVE tap dancing!

What enticed you to audition for 9 to 5? It was the fact that this show has three strong, incredible leading women- sadly that is a rarity in musical theater (and really just about anywhere). It is exciting to have an opportunity to be a part of this wonderful narrative.

Tell us about your character in 9 to 5. Judy has a beautiful transformation throughout this show. When we first meet her, she is fragile and broken from her impending divorce, but has a quiet courage (that she doesn't even realize), which slowly grows and blossoms into this full fledged confidence and independence, thanks to her new friendship from two incredible women. Doralee and Violet help Judy fully realize her true potential- women supporting and raising up other women is the best kind of support!

How are you like/NOT alike your character? Judy is a people pleaser, not unlike someone else I know..... She is also fiercely loyal to those she cares about, which is something I absolutely relate to and love about her. Unlike Judy, while I enjoy making others happy, I will not do so at my own expense. That's what makes her story so exciting to tell- watching her find her voice and realize her personal boundaries is inspiring!

When you’re not onstage, how do you spend your time? I'm definitely in the meat of my role as 'Mommy," with my girls being 9 & 6 years old. Their schedules take up a good chunk of mine and my husband's time. Our oldest is in competition dance, so I get to enjoy jobs as chauffeur and ATM as well. We are California transplants (having moved to the area a couple years ago), so when possible our family loves to visit the local lakes and beaches- really any relaxing water activities!

What’s the best thing about Stageworks? Their respect and professionalism! I have only just started rehearsals, but am already so grateful to be a part of a company that instills such a considerate and positive culture. The next couple of months are going to be fun!
