Audition Workshop &

This summer, Stageworks Theatre proudly presents Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical. To prepare for this high-energy and inspiring production, Stageworks is hosting an Audition Workshop with the show’s production team:

Sam Brown, Director

Michael Montgomery, Stageworks Theatre Artistic Director

Adam Delka, Music Director

Dru Wiser, Choreographer

During the workshop, individuals will

  • Shake off some nerves!

  • Practice the basics of audition etiquette.

  • Participate in a professionally structured dance audition/

  • Take part in a 'mock audition' to perfect the tools of your craft.

  • Participants will work one-on-one with our creative team on their song, receive suggested adjustments, and learn choreography directly from the show!

Ages: 8 -17

Time: 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Cost: $75 per participant

Space is limited

Participants may record their portion of the session.

Click here to register. Space is limited. Following registration, participants will receive instructions to submit an acting resume and headshot (home-done is fine) as well as a list of songs from which attendees will select one to perform that day.  (It will be a song only - no monologue.)

Important: Please note, this is not an audition. Auditions for Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical will be held on April 18th and requires registration for details at this link.

Sides? Cuts? Callbacks?  Dance call? What does it all mean? In our Parent Lab, learn the terminology of the trade, what’s expected of you as a parent of a young auditioning actor, as well as other important topics to give confidence in how to be a beacon of support in the process.

Parent Lab will be led by moms who have been on both sides of the casting experience - parent and audition panel member:

Julie Montgomery, Past-President, Actor Parent, and Audition Committee

Stephanie Wisdom, Past-President, Actor Parent, and Audition Committee

The Parent Lab will prepare you to support your young actor through the process and will help ensure that the audition process is a positive experience for your family.

We'll cover topics such as:

  • Audition vocabulary

  • Audition etiquette

  • Audition mechanics (what happens in the room?)

  • Audition preparation (songs and monologues)

  • What to wear

  • Headshots and resumes

  • Callbacks

  • Handling rejection

Time: 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Cost: $25

Space is limited.

This workshop is inspired by our production of Matilda, but student, nor parent need to be auditioning for that upcoming show to participate. These sessions will be a great opportunity to hone audition skills, whether for Matilda or any show!

Participation in this Audition Workshop does NOT guarantee a role in Stageworks Theatre’s Main Stage production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, but it does teach invaluable auditioning skills that can be used in future productions. Also, audition appointments for the show must be scheduled separately.
