Stageworks Theatre announces an open audition call for its next show of the 2023/2024 season, Jane Austen's Lady Susan by Rob Urbinati.

Jane Austen’s comic novella about a young widow’s brilliant scheming in turn-of-the-century English society comes to life in Rob Urbinati’s delightfully witty stage adaptation. Lady Susan flees London and arrives at the country home of her obliging brother-in-law and his suspicious wife. Soon to come – uninvited – are an eligible suitor, her willful daughter, her chatty confidante, and a dimwitted bachelor. Lady Susan schemes, but all dies not go according to plan as she and her daughter become rivals for the same man.

WHAT TO PREPARE

Please prepare a one (1) minute comedic monologue AND  one (1) of excerpts below in Standard RP British dialect .

Male-Presenting Actors:

Reginald: You endeavored to put me against her, but I reveled in the scandalous tales. And now, having spent time with her amidst the shrubbery, I am pleased to report that I was unable to detect the smallest impropriety in her manner. She displayed nothing of vanity or pretension. Lady Susan is not at all the woman you suppose.

Female-Presenting Actors:

Lady Susan: Since I lost my husband, I have been entirely devoted to Frederica. My sole desire is for her to be in possession of a fortunate establishment when she is wed. I make no apologies- it is also what her father wished. Sir James is a man of amiable disposition and excellent character, and in every respect, a good match for the girl. That is the reason I encourage her to consider him. It is all I ask.
