Students registered for the Guys and Dolls JR production class will need to attend a placement audition to determine which cast they will be in. Auditions will be held Saturday, December 10 (times will be assigned, but it will be morning), and students will be placed according to age, experience, and skill level. Roles will not be cast at this point - only class placement.
Guys Cast: Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30pm-7pm
Dolls Cast: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30pm-7pm
If a 4:30pm start time conflicts with school release times, a later arrival date will be accommodated.
Cast designations of "guys" or "dolls" are not meant to indicate what gender of the actors will be; it's only a way to keep us clear which cast is which!
$530 plus $35 one time/semester registration fee (only due for the first class for which you register - Payment plans available) Registration required before auditions. At auditions, you will be able to specific if there are certain days of the week that will not work for your student.
Guys and Dolls JR. is an adaptation of the show considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy. Its namesake ran for 1,200 performances when it opened on Broadway in 1950, and won numerous Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Frank Loesser's brassy, immortal score and witty book makes Guys and Dolls JR. a perennial crowd pleaser.
Set in Damon Runyon's New York City, Guys and Dolls JR. follows gambler, Nathan Detroit, as he tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck. Meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer, Adelaide, laments that they've been engaged for fourteen years without ever getting married. Nathan turns to fellow gambler, Sky Masterson, for the dough, but Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary, Sarah Brown. Guys and Dolls JR. takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, but everyone eventually ends up right where they belong.
If your student is on the cusp of audition ages between this session and the Teen Conservatory (8th Grade), pick one program or the other and audition for it - you do not need to audition for both. Simply note when you come to audition that you would like to be considered for both programs. You will be able to note any preferred class days of the week at audition.
Want Extra Help Preparing?
Students who want some extra help preparing for their audition can sign up for the Guys and Dolls JR Audition Prep class held on Sunday, December 4, 1-4pm. Registration for the prep class is required.
