Stageworks Theatre announces open auditions for The Addams Family, a New Musical – July 17, 18 and 19, 2022
Directed by Ryan Scarlata, Choreography by Adam W. Delka, Music Direction by Katie Heaton, The Addams Family is Tony nominated comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness who has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family—one that Gomez and Morticia have never met. Everything changes for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for the “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
Performs: October 7-October 30, 2022, on the Garza Mainstage (12 shows Fri/Sat 730pm, Sun 3pm)
Rehearsals: August 7-October 6. Rehearsals are generally 3-5 days per week based on role (Monday-Thursday 7-10pm/Saturdays). 4 total conflicts are accepted (none during tech week), though not all actors are called to every rehearsal. Pick-ups during the show run on 10/13, 10/20, 10/27.
Compensation: Stipends, Non-Union
Inclusive Casting: The creative team is committed to casting practices that advance diversity and inclusion. All ethnicities, types, and abilities will be considered for every role with the exception of roles on which the storyline is dependent on a particular race. These exceptions are noted specifically in the character breakdown below.
Except for the character of Pugsley, actors must be 17 years of age or older on the date of the first rehearsal and genders listed in the breakdown below are specific to the pronouns used in the script, however the creative team may consider any gender identity for roles provided that the performer can execute the vocal requirements.

Lead Male, Hispanic, Adult Late 30s+, Bari/Tenor, Bb2 - G4
Possesses great pride in his family and struggles with loyalty between honoring the requests of his children and his lifelong promise to his wife. Excellent comedic timing.
Lead Female, Adult Late 30s+, Mezzo/Belter, G3 - Bb5
Strong willed Matriarch with a dry wit. Fearing her daughter is slipping away and her husband is hiding something, she stops at nothing to uncover secrets.
Lead Female, Late Teen/Young Adult, Pop Soprano/Mezzo/Belt, A3 - E5
Internally conflicted by her head and heart at the prospect of marriage to Luke, a boy from a “normal” family. She has her father’s heart and her mother’s stubborn sensibility.
Supporting Male, Child 10-13, Unchanged Alto, A3 - F5
Pugsley is threatened by his adolescent older sister’s new romance and believes it is up to him to “fix” the situation to ensure she will be around to play with (torture) him.
Supporting Male, Adult Late 30s+, Bari/Tenor C3 - G4 (opt. C5)
Serves as narrator and character. Vaudevillian style comedian who keeps peace in the family with his joyful child-like presence.
Featured Male, Adult 20s+, Ensemble Bass
A man of few words and many groans. Devoted Addams Family Butler who sees all.
Featured Female, Mature Adult, Character Belt, Gospel G4 - F5
Mother of Gomez and Fester. Advises with feisty wit, comedic timing, and physical comedy.
Featured Male, Late Teen/Young Adult, Strong Pop Baritenor, C3 - E4
Hopeful romantic boy next door type in love with Wednesday. Struggles to blend his “normal” life, including his stubbornly conformist parents.
Supporting Male, Adult Late 30s+, Tenor, C3 - A4
A staunch Ohioan. Fears his son’s romance with Wednesday will negatively affect his family’s “normal” appearance. He cannot fathom being related to the Addams Family.
Supporting Female, Adult Late 30s+, Mezzo/Belter, Ab3 - Ab5
Lucas’s mother and Mal’s wife. Mysteriously reserved and collected. She uses rhymes to cope with unexpressed internal distress.
Ensemble, Mix of Gender, Age and Vocal Range
Addam’s ghostly Ancestors from various eras serve as featured dancers, chorus and storytellers. They are summoned once a year to celebrate with the family.

HOW TO AUDITION
Register for an audition here. After you've completed the form, you will see a URL on the screen to the time to select your audition time.
Prepare: a single song selection of no more than 90 seconds (up to 32 bars), or 2 contrasting song selections no more than 60 second each (16 bars each). Selection(s) may be from the show or in similar style. An accompanist is available with advance notice. Otherwise, please bring a track on your phone or other device.
Dance/Movement Evaluation time slots are assigned when sign up for an audition slot. You will be taught a short combination to perform. Please wear dance attire. You will have time to change as needed, but we also suggest you come ready to audition for both. You may audition in dance attire.
UNABLE TO ATTEND?
We’d much prefer to see you in person, but we will accept video auditions no later than July 17. Register as instructed above and also submit a Vimeo or YouTube audition link in the registration form (there is a spot for it). Please provide password if needed.
