Stageworks Theatre announces auditions for its next show of the 2021/2022 season, Yasmina Reza’s Tony Award Winning God of Carnage on December 3, 2021, and December 5, 2021.

Directed by Matthew C. Logan, a playground altercation between eleven-year-old boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses, and the rum flows, tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principles in tatters.

“[A] streamlined anatomy of the human animal…delivers the cathartic release of watching other people’s marriages go boom. A study in the tension between civilized surface and savage instinct, this play is itself a satisfyingly primitive entertainment.” —NY Times.

Auditions are open to the community and parts may be cast with actors of any ethnicity.  All actors are required to be at least 18 years old at the time of auditions. Roles may be cast without callbacks.  Rehearsals and performances are held at Stageworks Theatre, 10760 Grant Road, Houston, Texas 77070

Final Casting

Available Roles and Director Character Notes
  • Veronica (Upper 30/40s - Michael's wife):Female presenting. Any Ethnicity. A writer  - she pictures herself as the queen of social conscience and common courtesy – but is really judgmental and domineering.  As the situation disintegrates she fails to maintain her crumbling façade of civility.

  • Michael (40/50s - Veronica's husband):Male Presenting. Any ethnicity. Initially eager to create peace, his uncouth nature is slowly revealed. He makes racial comments, denounces child-raising, and progresses from a seemingly good-natured hardware store supplier/salesperson to a neurotic Neanderthal.

  • Annette (Upper 30/40s - Alan's wife):Female Presenting. At first presenting herself as an elite member of the one percent, she is actually on the brink of a panic attack.  Her self-confidence has been eroded by her husband Alan's eternal preoccupation with work.

  • Alan (40/50s - Annette's husband): Male Presenting. Any ethnicity. An openly rude corporate lawyer, he frequently interrupts their meeting by talking on his cell phone.  As he says, "I have no manners".   At first seen as cool and aloof, he is sexist and always acts in his own self-interest.
