Auditions: Beehive: The 60s Musical

Stageworks Theatre announces auditions on February 10 for Beehive: The 60's Musical performing April 5, 2019 through April 28, 2019.

Created by Larry Gallagher, Beehive is the ultimate celebration of 1960’s female empowerment. Featuring such timeless classics as “My Boyfriend’s Back”, “Be My Baby”, “Son of a Preacher Man”, and “Me and Bobby McGee”, Beehive nostalgically recalls the days of miniskirts, transistor radios and flower power. Told from the perspective of six young women who came of age in this enigmatic decade, these young ladies look back on a host of issues ranging from their first Beehive Dance to the challenges we faced as a nation – all accomplished by a vast array of the most celebrated and memorable songs of the era.

Four of the six roles have been cast, and are seeking two female singers, stage age 25-40 with the ability to move without restriction and learn complex group choreography.  You must be 18 years or older by February 16, 2019 to audition. Auditions are open to the community and parts may be cast with actors of any ethnicity.  Additionally, roles may be cast without callbacks so bring it in the open audition!

All auditions, rehearsals and performances are held at Stageworks Theatre, 10760 Grant Road, Houston, Texas 77070.

We are not looking for vocal perfection or pure imitations.  This a 6-female girl group, so harmonies will be important as will entertainment factors.   Make the song choice your own.  If you choose to “imitate” the artist, it won’t hurt you.  Just know you do not and we only ask you drive the artist’s intent of the song.

Note:  All of the songs have instrumental/karaoke versions on YouTube and sheet music is also readily available on many sights.  You decide what track/version works best for you.  Please come with the track copied to your phone or other playback device as you’ve learned it.  We are not concerned with the exact track you use and perfection, as much as your ability to sing the actual song.   You may also have your vocal coach record a piano backing track for you. We would prefer you NOT perform with sheet music in your hand—yes, memorization is a thing!  Also, this is a dance intensive show—we are not expecting dance phenoms, but you have to be willing to work and learn.

By signing up for a singing/acting audition, you are automatically signing up for a dance/movement evaluation.   We will teach you a basic dance step. Please wear appropriate clothing for dance/movement.

Unable To Attend Audition?

We will accept video auditions no later than February 8, 2019. Please follow the audition format listed above and submit a Vimeo or YouTube audition link to  Also, attach a completed audition form, along with headshot/bio in your email.   We may still require an in-person audition, especially for dance movement.
